Rooted in Nature

A three-day active journey through Quindío’s landscapes and rural life — by bike, by river, and around the table.

3 Days / 2 Nights  ·  Private Active Experience  ·  Quindío

Nature is not the backdrop. It is the journey.

Ride the trails, flow with the river, taste the land.

Rooted in Nature is a three-day active journey through the landscapes and rural communities of Quindío, designed for travelers who want to experience nature rather than simply observe it. Ride mountain roads between Andean towns, discover cacao and chocolate at the source, float down the river on a traditional bamboo raft, and share a farm-to-table meal at a coffee farm committed to more responsible ways of working with the land.

Along the way, meet the people whose livelihoods depend on these landscapes and discover how tourism, agriculture and conservation can create value for both communities and the environment.

Adventure connects you to the landscape. People help you understand why it matters.

Why this journey feels different

Move Through Nature

Experience Quindío actively — by bike, bamboo raft and on foot — rather than observing it through a window.

Meet the People Behind the Land

Meet farmers and local hosts whose livelihoods and stories are connected to the landscapes you explore.

Taste the Land

Discover cacao, coffee and farm-to-table food where they are actually produced.

Travel with Purpose

Support locally rooted experiences and businesses working toward more responsible relationships with their communities and environment.

Active by nature. Rooted in people.

The activities are the way into the territory — not the final purpose. Cycling lets us read the agricultural landscape at human speed. Cacao introduces us to another crop, another craft and another family story. The river changes our perspective. And the final farm brings the journey back to the people making daily decisions about how food, coffee and nature can coexist.

For us, sustainability is not only about protecting landscapes. It is also about making sure the people who live in them can benefit from tourism.

01Welcome to

Armenia · Coffee & Introduction to Quindío

Day 1

Your journey begins in Armenia with a relaxed welcome over specialty coffee. But this time, coffee is not the activity — it is the table around which the conversation begins. Together, we will introduce you to the natural territory of Quindío: its mountains, rivers, agricultural landscapes and the relationship between geography and the way people live and work here. This first conversation gives context to everything you will experience over the following two days.

Before exploring Quindío, let’s understand the land beneath our feet.

Filandia → Quimbaya · Mountain Biking · Cacao Farm

Day 2

Today we leave the vehicle behind and discover Quindío on two wheels. From the Filandia area, we begin a mountain-bike route toward Quimbaya, moving through rural roads, farms and agricultural landscapes. The bicycle lets us experience distance, slopes, vegetation, crops and rural communities at a different pace. The slower you travel, the more you notice. Along the way, we stop at a cacao farm to meet the people behind the crop and discover how cacao moves from fruit to chocolate. We will learn about the process, taste the product at its source and enjoy lunch at the farm before continuing the journey.

Ride → Meet → Learn → Taste.

Bamboo Rafting · Responsible Coffee Farm · Farm-to-Table

Day 3

After moving through the territory by bicycle, today we let the river set the pace. A bamboo-rafting experience offers a completely different way to encounter the landscape, traveling on a traditional raft made from guadua. From the river, we continue to a coffee farm where environmental responsibility is part of the way the property works. Rather than repeating the standard coffee-production story, we explore a different question: can agriculture work with nature instead of against it? We close the journey around the table with a delicious farm-to-table lunch connected to the land and the people producing it.

Sometimes the best way to experience a landscape is to stop moving against it and simply flow through it.

Sustainability, with people at the center

For Santana Travel, sustainability is not a label added to an itinerary.

It means choosing locally rooted experiences, building direct relationships with hosts, supporting rural livelihoods and favoring activities that create value while respecting the landscapes on which those livelihoods depend. The environmental dimension matters — but so does the social one. The people caring for, cultivating and living in these landscapes are part of the ecosystem of the journey.

🌱

Environmental

We favor partners and farms actively working toward more responsible relationships with the land — water, biodiversity, waste and conservation are part of the conversation, not an afterthought.

🤝

Social

We prioritize locally rooted suppliers, farmers and hosts, creating direct economic value for the people and communities who make this journey possible.

Travel with purpose. Leave value where you travel.

Small-scale by design

Rooted in Nature depends on local hosts, rural farms and outdoor conditions.

Departures are intentionally limited so the experience can remain private, flexible and respectful of the people and places receiving us.

Before you travel

Is this an adventure tour?

It is active, but the purpose goes beyond adventure. Mountain biking and bamboo rafting are ways to connect with the landscape, while farm visits and conversations connect you with the people who live and work within it.

How difficult is the mountain-bike route?

The final distance, elevation profile and technical level will be confirmed with the selected route and supplier. Guests should be comfortable riding a bicycle; the experience can be matched to the group’s ability where possible.

What happens if weather affects an outdoor activity?

Outdoor activities depend on weather, river and trail conditions. Safety comes first, so the itinerary may be adjusted or substituted when conditions do not allow the planned activity.

What is bamboo rafting?

It is a river experience aboard a traditional-style raft built from guadua bamboo, offering a slower and more contemplative way to experience the landscape.

Do I need to be a coffee or chocolate expert?

Not at all. Both farm experiences are designed around curiosity, people and the relationship between agriculture and the landscape.

What makes the coffee farm sustainable?

The exact environmental practices will depend on the farm selected for your departure. We will only describe specific sustainability measures once the operating farm and its practices are confirmed.

How does this trip support local people?

We prioritize locally rooted suppliers, farmers and hosts, creating direct economic value through the experiences included in the itinerary.

Is the experience private?

Yes. The journey is designed as a private, small-scale experience that allows flexibility and more meaningful interaction with local hosts.

What should I bring?

Comfortable active clothing, closed shoes suitable for cycling and rural terrain, sun and rain protection, and a willingness to get a little muddy. A final packing list will be provided before travel.

Can the experience be customized?

Yes. Because Santana Travel curates the journey locally, we can often adapt the pace or selected activities to the interests and abilities of the group.

A little more to take home

Move through the land. Meet the people. Leave connected.

Three days. Three ways of moving through Quindío — by bike, by river and through the farms that sustain rural life. An active journey built around nature, curiosity, local relationships and a more responsible way to travel.
